An example of role segmentation on a landing page

There are a variety of different ways you can segment users on a landing experience. One of the most popular ways is by role within an organization.

Let’s look at a landing page example we created for the MarketingProf’s 911 Marketing Help initiative a while back:

Three general types of people may be searching for marketing advice, so right away the landing page segments the users by their role.

At first thought you may wonder why marketing advice needs to be segmented out at all. Good advice is good advice, right? But when you can create this hyper targeted experience where the role of the person is understood and the advice is applicable to that person’s daily life, good advice becomes great advice. A good product becomes a great product. A good solution becomes the perfect solution.

Providing visitors with information or a shopping cart is not enough. In order to persuade the visitor to convert, you should show them exactly why your solution is perfect for their problem.  Let’s face it, there are very few markets that are not highly competitive today.  Launching a hyper targeted landing experience is your competitive differentiator. It’s your ace in the hole.

Segmenting by role is definitely not the only way to go - over the next couple of days we’ll show you some other examples of how we like to use segmentation.
