Questions to ask yourself before creating & launching a landing page

It’s no secret (or at least we hope not) that it’s really easy to create landing pages with LiveBall. A quick click here, drop in a pic there, set your analytics preferences, aaaaand you’re live!

LiveBall takes care of the tech stuff needed to create landing pages, but to create high-converting landing pages a marketer still has to get involved. After all, someone needs to write persuasive headline and copy, someone needs to decide which ad will sync up with the landing page, someone has to be there to monitor the analytics, and someone must anticipate the questions visitors will have once they land.

The first step towards making effective landing pages is to ensure cohesion between your ads and your landing pages. This isn’t a ‘nice to have’—it’s absolutely imperative. Marketers, ask YOURSELVES these questions to help you meet the needs of visitors.

Before creating the landing page, ask:

  • Which ad will lead to this landing page?
  • Which search term causes the ad to appear?
  • What needs does a person have if they click this particular ad?
  • What promise does this particular ad make?

Answer these questions as specifically as possible. If the ad clicked is for dog food, don’t send the visitor to a landing page for pet food. Instead tailor the page for dog owners who are looking for dog food. Include product shots of dog food, or at least an image of a dog.

The search term, the ad, the headline on the landing page, and the imagery should all work as a cohesive team to increase conversions.

Before launching the landing page, ask:

  • What is the offer made on this page?
  • Does the offer deliver on the promise made in the ad?
  • Is there a clear and simple way for the visitor to get started?
  • Is the page easily scannable and professional looking?

There is no sense in launching a landing page that doesn’t convert. Asking yourself these questions will prompt you to look at the page from a visitor’s perspective.

If you’re unable to answer any of these questions, or your answer doesn’t clearly speak to the needs of a visitor, go back and optimize!

What other questions is it important for a  marketer to ask before launching a landing page?
