New #postclick hashtag on Twitter

I’d like to nominate a new #postclick hashtag for Twitter.

When twittering about topics related to post-click marketing — especially sharing URLs to post-click related content — just add #postclick to your tweet. Relevant topics include:

  • landing pages
  • microsites
  • conversion paths (multi-step landing pages)
  • web site optimization
  • A/B testing
  • respondent segmentation

For example, you might have tweets like this:

The reasons to use #postclick instead of #landingpages or #optimization are:

  • it’s shorter — by 3 letters — and on Twitter every character counts
  • its context is specific (vs. #optimization applies to many subjects)
  • yet it’s broad enough to cohesively cover a range of related issues
  • it distinguishes after-the-click issues from #PPC and #SEM discussions

If you want to categorize a tweet as important to marketing in general, as well as post-click issues in particular, just do two hashes — #postclick #marketing — which has a nice cadence to it, no?

You can then keep an eye out for interesting #postclick discussions on Twemes, hashtags.org, and Twitter Search. And if you want to strike up a new post-click discussion, send me a tweet @chiefmartec.

This is an interesting post as we have just started the design of a Twitter campaign. We should be launching soon. I am curious, what are the benefits of using the # in a tweet?

Hi, Guy -- sorry for the delay in replying. This has been a whirlwind week!

The advantage of hashtags in Twitter is they provide a way for people to quickly find and track conversations on a certain topic -- even those that are happening outside the immediate set of people they're following.

As I write this, I've been following a series of fascinating tweets marked #ted, reports from the TED2009 conference in Long Beach.

I'm not sure if #postclick will ever be as cool as #ted, but hopefully to online marketers it will be a useful channel to monitor.
